I’m glad Osama Bin Laden is dead. I’ll never forget sitting at the dining facility at Bagram Airbase waiting for my flight home to the states when the news flashed across the screen.

At first I was numb in disbelief. It had been so long—did we actually get him, I wondered as I stared skeptically at the television waiting for the President to confirm the report.

I was elated and thankful for those Navy Seals for taking down the most infamous terrorist of our time.

The successful raid justifiably brought the Seals and specifically Seal Team 6 massive amounts of media attention and accolades. They deserve it.

But do they deserve more?

I read an article in Esquire this week called ‘The Man Who Killed Osama Bin Laden Is Screwed’ which detailed the financial and personal hardships of the man now known as “The Shooter”.

“The Shooter” is the man who shot and killed the most prolific terrorist the world has ever known.

But does “The Shooter” deserve more?

It pains me to see this American hero going through financial and personal hardships. The Esquire piece is heart wrenching but it left me with questions.

The most pressing of which is why did “The Shooter” leave the Navy a short 3 1/2 years before he was eligible to receive a lifelong pension?”

“The Shooter” isn’t some young inexperienced seaman. He was a worldly senior non-commissioned officer and he knew by getting out of service before his 20 years that he would receive no pension.

But it pains me to see any veteran going through these hardships.

So does “The Shooter” deserve more?

Yes, he deserves more than the average American because he has fought for this country and made great scarifies.

But he killed Osama Bin Laden, doesn’t our country owe him more?

No. He was doing his job just like the thousands of troops who’ve served and are currently serving in Afghanistan.
